Care Tips
In order to help you get the longest wear possible from your
jewelry, we have prepared this page of helpful jewelry
care tips.
General
Care
- Care for Earrings if you have sensitive ears:
- Try dipping wires or posts into petroleum jelly or "Bag Balm".
- Try painting wires, posts, and backs with clear nail polish.
- Removing price tags that wrap around the chain is easy. Use
scissors and cut the tag, being careful not to cut through the
chain. Never twist or pull the tag to remove it. It could damage
your jewelry.
- It is possible for us to change the wires on earrings to surgical
steel, nickel free, sterling silver, 14-karat gold-filled or 14k
gold for an additional charge relative to type of metal used.

Some helpful DON'Ts:
- Don't store your jewelry in your purse or pocket. If
you find you need to take your jewelry off and store it
for a short time, please follow these guidelines. Carefully wrap
it in several layers of tissue or padding. Find a place where
it will not get crushed, bent or broken. Don't forget to move
it back to its storage area when you get home.
- Don't expose your beautiful jewelry to hairspray or other chemicals; they can severely affect the finish. To minimize exposure to these substances:
- Always put jewelry on last ~ after using perfume,
hairspray, deodorant, etc.
- Never shower or swim in your jewelry.
- Always store jewelry in closed boxes or drawers to
keep it away from the open air.
- Don't sleep in your jewelry. The settings can catch in
your bedding (hair, dog's hair, sweetheart's hair!) weakening
the settings, potentially causing the loss of a stone.
Cleaning
- Clean large, uncoated Austrian crystals (these are a
single solid tone color) by dipping a cotton swab in diluted window
cleaner (such as Windex) squeezing out excess and carefully wiping
the crystal clean, keeping the cleaner off the metal. Don't do
this with coated Austrian crystals (these have a rainbow effect).
- NEVER dip jewelry that has glued parts into liquid cleaner.
It can de-bond the bonding agents!
- Our jewelry is made to look antique. If you clean it
extensively you can diminish the antique black, brass or
silver finish.
- Our antique brass and silver pieces should never turn black or green on you unless you have exposed them to water or chemical substances - see above instructions for general care.
Putting On Your Jewelry
- To straighten a delicate necklace, open the clasp, hold
it at one end and allow it to hang down freely; shake slightly
two or three times to allow the chain to untwist; then run your
fingers lightly down the chain to the other end and then ~ put
it on!
- When wearing for the first time, removing price tags that wrap
around the chain is easy. Use scissors and cut the tag, being
careful not to cut through the chain. Never twist or pull the
tag to remove it. It could damage your jewelry.
- French wires should be pinched carefully so they fit more securely on your ears.
- When pulling the back off of Stud Earrings hold the cup
the stone is set in, don't pull on the stone.
Repairs
- Open "O" rings: If your jewelry gets pulled or yanked and one of the little "0" rings, called jump rings, opens, see if you feel comfortable with this: If you're handy with a small needle nose pliers gently close the jump ring back to it's original shape making sure there is no gap between the two ends of the jump ring.

Storage
- Store necklaces and bracelets with the clasps hooked
to prevent tangling.
- Store strung or beaded necklaces and bracelets flat to prevent stretching.
- Store jewelry in a drawer, bag or box out of the air.
- Some of our customers organize their jewelry by color and or function in 1" high stackable trays. The trays are then stacked and stored in a dresser drawer. Everything is easy to find and see and out of the air.
